Jerome Increase Case founded the J I Case Company in 1842 and soon gained recognition as the first builder of a steam engine for agricultural use. Case manufactured more threshing machines and steam engines than any other company in history - 36,000. In 1910, the J I Case Threshing Machine Co. purchased the Pierce Motor Co. of Racine and renamed the Automobile "Case" and utilized the company's 8,000 dealers and agents world wide to sell the new line. Case automobiles came in Touring models, Sedans, Coupes, and a few sporting types of a luxury class. Case continued to build automobiles until the mid 1920s. Od Abe, the most famous bird in agricultural history, reigned for 104 years as the J I Case Company trademark until the acquisition of International Harvester. The Minneapolis-Moline Company was formed in 1929 after a merger between the Moline Implement Company, the Minneapolis Threshing Machine Company and the Minneapolis Steel & Machinery Company. They started their tractor business with the production of the Twin City models which were carryovers formally built by the Minneapolis Steel & Machinery Company. Production of this tractor continued through 1934 and was followed by many other popular models of tractors-one of the most extensive in the industry at that time. Minneapolis-Moline was acquired by the White Motor Company in 1963. They are still used in farming today and admired by MM collectors.
